EQUIPMENT

SFO provides club equipment for minifencers and beginners, included in fees, except for clean, non-marking sneakers (required).

Basic Equipment

We recommend the following equipment for fencers wishing to purchase their own gear for basic club and occasional tournament use:
  • 1 350N front zip jacket
  • 1 350N or better mask with conductive bib 
  • 1 standard sous plastron (under jacket)
  • 1 plastic chest protector with FOILGUARD soft cover (required for females)
  • 1 lamé, usually copper based
  • 1  standard glove
  • 2  non-FIE electric foil weapons 
  • 2 body wires
  • 1 mask wire
  • 1 Fencing bag of your choice

Required for most tournaments: 
  • 1 350N knickers
  • 1 pr fencing socks

You may also wish to purchase
  • 1 pair of dedicated fencing sneakers
  • 1 plastic chest protector for boys (required for ages 10 and under)

Competitive / Elite Team Equipment

Competitive team members are required to have all of the above plus:
  • minimum 2 electric foil weapons (check with coach for which one)
  • 3 body wires
  • Lame with name and country on back
  • weapon repair kit

Competitive team members who wish to fence on the national level circuit or are cadet age (15 and up) must have FIE mask, sous plastron and jacket/pants and three weapons.

Foil grip style is a personal thing but most people at the club seem to be favouring the "Visconti" pistol style grip instead of the traditional "French" grip.  Talk to the head coach for personalized suggestions.
