The pre-elite program is an invitation only program for athletes in minifence, or beginner fencing who age is under 12, and who have aptitude and desire to become competitive fencers. Each athlete should remain in their original program (minifence or beginner) until the transition to competitive team in addition to the pre-elite program as both these programs continue to develop the fundamental literacy of fencing, and provide appropriate bouting and competition for their ages and mindset.
It is a training group led by a senior coach which develops the ‘sense’ of fencing within games and drills designed to expediate development, primarily against age or near age peers of the same level. Individual lessons are also given. Lessons are 15 minutes in length.
What is Expected in Pre-Elite?
Pre-elite athletes will attend the weekly trainings, and be expected eventually to purchase real fencing gear. SFO can help with the transition to ownership, but it is a program that uses real weapons.
The pre-elite program will run Wednesday afternoons from 6:30-8:00. It will run through to the end of June, and resume in September. You are encouraged to enroll in summer camps in the summer.
The pre-elite program is a supplement program, and you are encouraged to continue to participate in the minifence or beginner program you are presently in. However, you may choose to not participate in those, and merely in the pre-elite.
Pre-elite alone enrolment is $100. 10-month program paid over 12 months
