Congratulations to all our athletes over the last weeks in various competitions, international to provincial. We had some amazing successes in what I call the dessert of competition. But everyone was invited to the main meal. We must always remember success lies not the podium or even selection but in the things that challenge us where we are in that moment of our lives. If you see yourself learning and being made better as a result for the future (whether in fencing or life), then you have succeeded. Be proud, shout it out loudly on that!
Remember, there is only one world champion, one Olympic medallist and therefore the vast majority of fencer, by that definition, have lost, but they are not losers - the process of pushing towards makes them all successful regardless of the final prize.
This is the reason we compete - to be better ourselves. Everything else is secondary. Don't miss the main meal because you want to eat the dessert at the end of it.
